Mauna kea in Hawii measures around 10,200 metres if its height is measured from the base to the trip. Of this, around 5,995 metres is below the surface of the ocean. Mt Everest, which is 8,848 metres tall,is thus considered the highest mountain in the world because it is entirely on land.
